The Great Holiday Debate: Before or After Thanksgiving?
🎄 The Great Holiday Debate: Before or After Thanksgiving?
Every year, like clockwork, a very important discussion takes over group chats, family dinners, and Facebook moms groups everywhere:
When is it acceptable to start decorating for Christmas?
Before Thanksgiving… or after?
It’s the seasonal equivalent of “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” — hilarious, harmless, and full of strong opinions.
Let’s settle this once and for all (or at least laugh about it).
🎄 Team Early — “If I don’t have the tree up by Nov. 1, I’m behind.”
These folks waste no time. Halloween candy isn’t even gone before they’re unpacking ornaments and untangling lights that somehow knotted themselves in the box.
Their arguments:
-
“It brings joy — why delay joy?”
-
“I worked hard on this elaborate décor. It deserves a full two months of admiration.”
-
“Mariah Carey has defrosted. The time is now.”
Team Early is also the group most likely to:
✅ Have a color-coordinated tree
✅ Own matching family pajamas
✅ Know the exact date of every Hallmark movie premiere
✅ Already have a light-up inflatable covering 80% of their front lawn
🦃 Team Thanksgiving First — “Respect the turkey.”
Then there’s the other side of the battlefield.
These are the purists.
The traditionalists.
The defenders of the pumpkin spice season.
They believe Christmas décor should not be seen until at least the Friday after Thanksgiving — and preferably not until the leftovers are packed and the last slice of pie has been eaten.
Their arguments:
-
“Fall deserves its moment — don’t rush it.”
-
“You can’t have garland when you still have pumpkins on the porch!”
-
“My HOA will write me up.”
Team Thanksgiving First is also most likely to:
✅ Burn fall candles right until the bitter end
✅ Insist on real trees
✅ Take pride in their perfectly curated tablescape
✅ Enjoy not feeling rushed by a relentless holiday countdown
🎁 The Neutral Zone — “Do whatever makes your soul happy.”
There’s also a large group of peacemakers who refuse to take sides. They put the tree up when the spirit moves them — maybe mid-November, maybe December 15th — and they’re still wrapping gifts at midnight on Christmas Eve.
Their motto?
“There are no rules in this economy.”
And honestly… they might be onto something.
💡 So… who’s right?
Honestly? Everyone.
Decorating early brings joy.
Decorating later keeps the seasons from getting blurred together.
Decorating whenever you feel like it is the ultimate stress-free vibe.
And no matter which camp you fall into, one thing’s for sure:
Holiday magic hits DIFFERENT once the lights are up — whether that’s November 1st or December 1st.
❤️ Final thoughts
At the end of the day, this funny little debate is really just proof of one thing — we all love the holidays in our own way.
So whether your Christmas tree is already glowing or still waiting patiently in a storage bin somewhere…
May your season be cozy, joyful, and filled with whatever traditions make you happiest.
